NATURAL RED MINERAL PIGMENT

The natural brick dust (or crushed roof tile) used in horasan (Roman) mortar is a fired-clay based material that gives the mortar its pozzolanic property. It is the most fundamental component used, mixed with lime, in historic buildings, especially in structures requiring water resistance such as cisterns, hammams (bathhouses) and domes.
