Hot-rolled steel angle with two equal legs — the fundamental profile of steel construction and general metalwork.
An angle bar is a rolled steel profile with an “L”-shaped cross-section; when both legs are the same width it is called an equal angle. The section is defined by the leg width (b) and the thickness (s): 40×40×4, for example, is an angle with two 40 mm legs and a thickness of 4 mm.
Because a corner joint carries load in both the horizontal and the vertical plane, angles are used as connection and reinforcement elements in steel construction, as members in roof and façade substructures, and as the main profile in railings, stairs, door and window frames, shelving systems and machinery fabrication.
