Rubble Hardcore

A coarse fill of crushed rock or rubble stone, laid beneath foundations and fill areas.

Rubble hardcore ('blokaj') is a coarse fill made up of large crushed-rock or rubble-sized stone fragments. Laid in a thick layer and compacted, it fills large voids beneath a slab, raises bearing capacity and helps drainage.

It is used as the fill beneath foundations, under raft (mat) foundation slabs, and behind basement and retaining walls; a finer stabilised or concrete layer is typically applied over it.
