Acoustic Egg-Crate Foam
Flame-retardant, open-cell polyurethane sound-insulation foam with an egg-crate profile.
Acoustic egg-crate foam is, as the name suggests, shaped like an egg box. Open-cell polyurethane foam impregnated with a mineral-based flame-retardant additive is known as flame-retardant acoustic egg-crate foam. It is flexible, easy to apply, and its surface can be painted with spray paint. It is made of first-class material, holds a flame-retardancy quality certificate and is ISO certified.
It absorbs sound and conditions room acoustics; the price varies with the density and thickness of the material. Like other acoustic foams, it is not used on its own to block sound completely.
For truly effective performance, acoustic foam with a heavy barrier is recommended: the EPDM barrier is a special sound-insulation material with very low sound transmission.
